Colossian Errors and Today – Hans Weichbrodt

In the letter to the Colossians, Paul writes how our relationship to God through Jesus Christ affects all our relationships and our lifestyles.

Paul had heard that the Colossian Christians, who had at one time been strong in their faith, were now vulnerable to deception about the faith. He wrote to refute each of the theological errors the Colossians were tempted to embrace. 

Is this not also just like our world today? 

The city of Collisae was decimated by an earthquake in the 60s AD and has yet to be excavated. It was built along a major trade route. The discovery to come when it is excavated is sure to be astounding.

Let’s join in with Hans and the group on the mound of Colossae as he discusses the climate of the city and the impact of Paul’s Epistle to the Church there.

The Stunning Testimony of Polycarp

Polycarp, believed to have been led to Christ by the Apostle John, became a martyr for his faith. Listen in as Hans gives a message about Polycarp and his stance for Christ 2 thousand years ago.

Our group is at St. Polycarp Church in Izmir. Turkey.

This 19th-century church is lavishly decorated and is the oldest in the city. It was named after St. Polycarp, the first bishop of Smyrna who was burned at the stake.

Visit Where Philip Was Martyred

Hieropolis is an ancient Greek city located on hot springs in southwestern Anatolia. This is the same place where the Apostle Phillip was Martyred for his faith and where we now find Hans and the group. Listen in as Hans teaches in this significant location.

  • Tradition associates this with Philip the Apostle, but some scholars think the reference is to Philip the Evangelist. Photos made May 27, 2014.

Paul Gets a Haircut

What in the world does the Apostle Paul getting a haircut have to do with the Christian message? You may be surprised.

In Ancient Greece, Kenchreai was one of the two ports of the inland city-state of Corinth. The Apostle Paul stopped at Kenchreai during his second missionary journey, where he had his hair cut to fulfill the Nazarite vow. 

Listen in the Hans Weichbrodt right at the very same port where the Apostle Paul stood.
